A Hemel-based charity that supports adults with learning disabilities recently celebrated its 70th anniversary.
Dacorum Mencap, located in Hemel Old Town High Street, celebrated 70 years of serving the community with their very own bake off. Members, families and carers congregated in The Steam Coach for the charity’s first big social event since the COVID-19 pandemic. Members made cakes for the competition, which was judged by trustees.
Founded in 1952, Dacorum Mencap is affiliated with Royal Mencap and runs activities such as trips to nightclubs, games evenings, sports activities, and days out.
Carol Walls, project manager at Dacorum Mencap, said: “For 70 years, people with a learning disability have been at the heart of everything we do here at Dacorum Mencap and will continue to be.”
Following the celebration, the Hemel charity is now looking for 100 companies to donate £100 as part of the Mencap Corporate Heroes Scheme. To find out more, email Carol on manager@dacorummencap.org.uk
