BAD DAY: Hemel Town defeated 2-0 by Welling United

Published on: 7th December 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Hemel Hempstead Town F.C

It was a day at the office to forget for Hemel Town as their away tie against Welling United finished 0-2.

The game was going well for The Tudors until Sam Ashford received his first ever red car as a professional, which turned the game on its head.

In the 40th minute, Anthony Cook whipped in a free kick where Moses Emmanuel was at the back post waiting to head home the opener to put Welling in the lead 1-0.

The Tudors put in a hard shift to stop Welling scoring any more but their hard work was undone in the 86th minute when Welling’s Nathan Green fired home the second from Cook’s looping corner.

After the game, Ashford tweeted: “Gutted. Horrible last 24 hours. Never been sent off ever before & apologise for letting everyone down @hemelfc. Just tried to stretch for a ball when pressing. Didn’t think it was a red card but have to take it on the chin & learn from it.”

Hemel Town will be back in action on Tuesday, December 10 at Vauxhall Road against Weymouth.
