AVOIDING TRAINS: St Albans railway station empty on first day back to work

Published on: 13th May 2020   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

Many St Albans residents who have gone back to work following the changes to the coronavirus lockdown made on Sunday opted to avoid public transport.

St Albans railway station was in fact empty this morning and there were no bikes or cars in the car park or passengers on the platform. The M1 was on the other hand busy.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Sunday that essential workers should go back to work starting from May 13 (today) if they can’t work from home.

This includes people who work in construction or manufacturing, or other fields where remote working is not an option.

He urged people to continue to avoid public transport wherever possible, and drive, walk or cycle to work instead.

Social distancing measures need to be followed in the workplace to ensure that employees remain at a safe distance from each other.
