Police in Three Rivers are urging motorists to take extra vehicle security measures following reports of two attempted thefts.
The first incident happened in Dell Meadow, Abbots Langley, at 10.50pm on Monday, May 26. Three males attempted to steal a Vauxhall Vivaro van but were disturbed by the owner before they ran from the scene. Nothing was taken. (Crime reference 41/48577/25)
The second attempted theft happened in Berry Lane, Rickmansworth, at 11pm yesterday (Tuesday, May 27). A van was targeted by offenders who used a drill to bypass the locking mechanism in an attempt to steal tools from inside. However, the vehicle alarm sounded, and the offenders ran from the scene. Again, nothing was taken. (Crime reference 41/48300/25)
Detective Sergeant Anna Cornish, from the Three Rivers Local Crime Unit, said: “We would like to reassure the community that we are taking these reports very seriously and are already conducting several lines of enquiry into these incidents. We know this type of crime can have a significant financial impact on the victim, as they often use their vehicles – and the contents – for work.
“We are doing all we can to identify those responsible, but residents can help us to prevent further crime by reviewing their vehicle security and taking extra precautions to protect their property. Thankfully, neither van was successfully stolen in either of these incidents, but we would encourage you to invest in making your vehicle too difficult for criminals to target.”
You can find a wealth of crime prevention advice on the constabulary’s website.
DS Cornish added: “We are also appealing for further information and witnesses in relation to these incidents; did you see any suspicious activity in either Dell Meadow on May 26, or Berry Lane on May 27? Any information, even if you believe it to be insignificant, could help bring these offenders to justice.”
