Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) recently announced that it does not support the rail freight terminal at the Radlett Aerodrome and will look at alternative uses for the site. Oliver Dowden, MP for Hertsmere welcomed a motion by HCC that agrees the council does not support the proposed Rail Freight Interchange. This followed a meeting on yesterday (November 10) which discussed a petition asking the county council not to sell the land to developers Helioslough. Mr Dowden said: “In order for the rail freight terminal to proceed, the county council would have to agree to sell the land which they own. I am very pleased that HCC unanimously agreed that they didn’t support a rail freight terminal and that before any sale, they would ‘proactively seek alternative uses for the site’. “These are very welcome developments and I’m grateful to the county councillors for taking on the points that Anne Main MP, myself and others have been making. “Namely, that the rail freight terminal does not best serve our community’s needs, and they should properly consider all other options before selling the land.” What are your thoughts on the decision?
