Stanmore Arts and Crafts Club is celebrating its second anniversary with a beautiful exhibition of participants’ work at Stanmore Library.
The club was started two years ago when friends Mui Cheung and Olivia King-Boateng realised that they weren’t the only residents of Stanmore who had turned to art as a way to navigate complex and busy lives.
The pair posted on the Stanmore Arts and Crafts Facebook group to see if other locals would be interested in starting up a community group. Along with Lynne Jones, the group then approached Stanmore Library, who agreed to host their sessions.
Two years on, the club’s weekly sessions draw in 10 regular attendees as well as a host of drop-ins. Mui, Olivia and Lynne now also run special workshops for events such as Christmas and Mother’s Day.
Last summer, one attendee told Mui that were it not for the “respite” provided by Stanmore Arts and Crafts Club, she would be “unable to cope”.
An exhibition of participants’ work is now open at Stanmore Library. The club’s weekly sessions run from 1pm to 3pm every Tuesday.
