The building which once housed one of Abbots Langley’s most popular restaurants will be demolished to make way for six new homes.
Pin Wei on the High Street closed in December 2022 after the landlords decided to sell up, following 17 years as one of the village’s most-loved eateries.
In October of last year, new owners the Wellington Pub Company (WPC) put forwards plans to demolish the existing building and build six two-storey dwellings.
Some residents expressed disappointment with the application, stating that they would rather the site be used for community or commercial purposes.
However, at a meeting of Three Rivers District Council’s Planning Committee on Thursday, August 15, councillors voted to recommend the development for approval.
The approval document from TRDC reads: “The development is not considered to result in any demonstrable harm when assessed against all material planning considerations.
“It is also recognised that the development would contribute to helping tackle the shortfall in housing.”
The homes will consist of one four-bed house, two two-bed houses, and three three-bed houses.
WPC has been contacted for comment.
