A postmaster from Rickmansworth has been highly commended as Newcomer of the Year in the 2020 Retail Industry Awards.
Dilan Patel opened the Moneyhill Parade Post Office in Rickmansworth in January 2020.
The entrepreneurial 28-year-old has three Welcome convenience stores and is set to open his fourth next month.
His business mind and great customer service led to Dilan reaching the national finals of the 2020 Retail Industry Awards.
Postmaster Dilan said: “The addition of Moneyhill Parade Post Office was really appreciated by the community and it has been very good for business. It has been a crazy year with the pandemic. People were very pleased that I had restored a Post Office in the area as there used to be one in Tudor Parade. It is getting busier and busier with people doing all their banking, sending parcels, returning on-line shopping and paying bills. Then whilst they are here, they are also buying goods from the store too.”
The 2020 Retail Industry Awards judges said: “The additions of Subway and the Post office makes perfect sense and so the rapid growth came with it. The store looks very good and clearly delivers a pleasant shopping experience combined with the local staff generating a family atmosphere.
“The performance-based reward scheme has great merit and it is great to see that Dilan has begun his first accredited apprenticeship training programme – an accreditation you do not see often enough in the independent sector. This courageous young man should go far.”
