Watford FC have set up a new sport and socialisation initiative for home-schooled children.
The community sports and education trust will be running the sessions every Thursday, starting from November 7, for all children aged eight to 12 years old who are home-schooled.
Held in the Meriden Community Centre, the sessions run from 1.30pm to 3pm and will be packed with different games, team activities and sports for children to try. The cost is £6 per session.
Speaking to Garston News, Watford FC spokesperson Lucy Tearle said: “We have recognised the growing demand in home-schooling and want to offer children the opportunity to meet other home-schooled children and be active.
“We cannot wait to welcome new children to these sessions, and it is important for us that all children have the opportunity to be active and socialise with other children, as well as trying new sports and games.”
Hertfordshire County Council has revealed that as of June 2024, 389 children were elective home-schooled in the Watford and Three Rivers districts.
They state that the top three reasons for home-schooling given by parents are: philosophical or preferential reasons, lifestyle choices, and mental health reasons.
