A group of keen artists from Kol Chai Synagogue in Hatch End, Pinner have staged their first Art Exhibition at Harrow Arts Centre (HAC).
The group of 10, who name themselves ‘Art with Mike’ have created more than 70 paintings, which will be displayed in HAC’s White Cube and Elliot galleries for the first three weeks of November.
Isobel Lawrence, part of Kol Chai’s organising Exhibition Team said: “The styles are so varied; it’s been fascinating to see how the group have increased their confidence and tackled subjects they wouldn’t have dreamt about at the beginning “
The exhibition is based on the theme of holidays, with artwork ranging from seascapes to personal travel moments in the UK and abroad, captured in acrylic.
The synagogues art group began their artistic journey six years ago, thanks to Kol Chai building manager Mike Cahillane, who is a professional artist and offered to help teach a small group of keen members how to draw.
The learners began to learn weekly with informal lessons with Mike, most learning from scratch starting with simple drawings of apples to a fully-fledged exhibition this autumn. In 2019, the group were put forward for their first exhibition, after postponements due to the pandemic, the group’s artistic journey is finally on display for all to see.
