Police investigating a theft from a house in Watford are appealing for witnesses and information. The incident occurred between 10am and 11am on Friday July 3 in Hagden Lane (A4145). The victim, an elderly woman, was struggling to gain access to her house when a man approached her and offered to help her. After the door was opened, the man accompanied the woman into the hallway. It is at this point it’s believed the man stole the woman’s handbag, which contained around £10 in cash and bank cards. Photos of her deceased husband were also taken as they were in the bag. The man is described as a white man, believed to be in his 40s, and of average height and slim build. He was wearing a Juventus football top, which had a large red stripe down it. PC Ellena Berry is investigating the theft and said: “This was an upsetting incident for the victim as she has put her trust in someone who offered to help her but has then suffered a theft in which very sentimental photos were taken. “Although this incident occurred over a month ago, I would like to hear from anyone who remembers seeing a man matching the stated description in the area around the time of theft, before or after it. Any information, however seemingly insignificant, could prove very useful to my investigation.” Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact PC Berry via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference C1/15/3172. If you have any information about this incident you can contact the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their Anonymous Online Form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will not go to court
