CRYSTAL CROOK: Police warn residents following series of jewellery thefts in St Albans

Published on: 11th December 2023   |   By: Panayiota Demosthenous   |   Category: Uncategorized

Herts Police are warning residents after a series of jewellery robberies have been reported in the area.

On Saturday, December 2, three linked burglaries occurred in St Albans.

Between 12pm and 7.30pm, thousands of pounds of jewellery was stolen from an address in Charmouth Road (41/96628/23). Between 3pm and 10.43pm, jewellery was stolen from an address in Highclere Court, Avenue Road (41/96512/23). Between 3.30pm and 6pm, a burglary occurred in Blenheim Road but nothing was stolen (41/96504/23).

This comes after an incident on Saturday, November 18, when a member of the public contacted the police after seeing a man discarding a box full of jewellery in the river in Verulamium Park. Herts Police attended the scene and will reunite the victim with their lost possessions (41/92502/23).

St Albans district Detective Inspector Ady Lysak said: “Being burgled is always an invasive experience and it seems worse at this time of year. We have a tough stance on tackling burglars and do lots of work to help prevent them from happening in the first place, as well as covert and overt patrols.

“You can help us to reduce the chances of being a victim of burglary this Christmas. Most burglars are opportunists. Make sure you lock all windows and doors when you go out, use timer switches on lights, consider investing in alarms, CCTV or doorbell cams, and report any suspicious behaviour.”

Anyone with any information on any of these incidents is asked to fill out an online reporting form at www.herts.police.uk/report or call the non-emergency number 101 quoting the crime reference number.
