While a ‘To Let’ sign can be a symbol of exciting opportunities, it had become a reflection of what’s lost to the Croxley community.
On Thursday, May 1, the sign was installed in front of the infamous The Sportsman pub on Scots Hill.
After its closure in February, residents were called into action in hopes the pub’s taps hadn’t poured their last pints.
A group called Save Our Sportsman was launched which aimed to register the pub as an Asset of Community Value (ACV).
Reaching out to CROXLEYnews, Councillor Narinder Sian said: “The Sportsman has long been part of Croxley Green’s heritage and social fabric.
“I’d like to see its future secured as a space that continues to serve the local community – whether as a pub, a hub, or something that reflects its place in our village’s identity.”
With the community rallying together, on Thursday, May 15, cllr Sian shared the pub was officially approved as an ACV by the Three Rivers District Council.
Now, the pub has been recognised for its role in the life of the community and will be protected on the ACV Register for the next five years, until May 2030.
Cllr Sian said: “Thank you to everyone who supported the nomination and helped champion its importance. This status strengthens our ability to protect and preserve local spaces that matter.”
