A zoo at a St Albans college has opened its doors to the public.
Oaklands Zoo, at Oaklands College on Hatfield Road, is offering visitors the chance to meet a variety of creatures.
Open every Sunday until September 3, visitors can see lemurs, marmosets, meerkats and reptiles, among other animals.
The Habitat Centre within the zoo is where students from the college are able to obtain practical experience in handling and husbandry and learn about caring for different species of animals, both large and small.
The college’s deputy principal Claire Dolan said: “Our zoo offers a cheap and cheerful way for families to learn about nature and have a lovely morning or afternoon out this summer.
“Oaklands is so much more than a college and many people don’t know about our animals, our equine centre or indeed the huge outside space we have here.
“We have so much going on here, and the zoo in particular is a great reminder that we are a centre of learning of all kinds, for all ages, and we have been a valued part of the community for 100 years now.”
Tickets can be booked and further information can be found here.
