The family of a woman who sadly died following a road traffic collision in Hemel Hempstead on Christmas Eve have paid tribute to her.
The incident occurred at a pedestrian crossing in Bennetts End Road, at around 6.10pm. It involved a black Nissan Juke and a pedestrian who police can now name as Shelagh Christina Casey (née Penrose).
Despite best efforts to save her, 52-year-old Shelagh, who was born in the town, sadly passed away.
Her brothers have paid the following tribute to her:
“Our sister will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was very outgoing and made friends easily.
“She was well known, not only in her local neighbourhood, but also in the wider community.
“A lifelong dog lover, she often rescued and rehomed dogs in need of her help.”
Investigations into the collision are continuing at this time. A 33-year-old woman from Luton was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She remains on police bail while enquiries continue.
PC David Burstow from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said: “Losing a loved one is extremely difficult at any time of year, but it was especially hard for Shelagh’s family to get this devastating news at Christmas. Our thoughts remain with them.
“We are still appealing for any witnesses who haven’t yet contacted police to please come forward. If you saw the vehicle in the area prior to the incident, or captured any dash cam footage, we’d like to hear from you.” Anyone with information is asked to please email david.burstow@herts.police.uk
