Year 4 pupils at a primary school in Garston took part in a 2K Rainbow Run to raise funds for the NHS.

Alby Tyas, 8, who attends St Catherine of Siena, wanted to do something to help and challenged his classmates to get involved in the run.

The run took place on October 19 and the children were supported by Glynn Colby, owner of Letz Play Sports and football coach to several of the class.

He came along to warm the pupils up before the run and donated and presented each of them with a medal for participating.

Amie Mulkerrin, mum of  Shannyn Mulkerrin, one of the pupils who took part in the run,  is very proud of the children.

She said: “I used to go to school with Katie, Tyas Alby’s mum and I was incredibly proud to see the younger generation stepping up and supporting the NHS. It is a great feeling as a parent knowing that you are raising kind children.

“COVID19 has affected most people’s lives in one way or another but whilst we were able to lock the front door and stay safe inside, our doctors and nurses have had to face it head on and risk themselves to save others.

“Thank you to our children for being so inspirational and thank you to the NHS for your continuous dedication.”

The kids smashed their target of £500 and managed to raise £1640, they returned home proudly wearing their medals and smiles from ear to ear.
