Once again, the outstanding Year 8 badminton players at St Helen’s School have wowed the county with their skills on the court and come back as champions.
Eight girls in four sets of pairs headed to the Herts and Middlesex League Badminton Tournament in January, competing against teams from other schools in the area such as Northwood College, Watford Girls, Haberdashers, North London Collegiate School (NLCS) and Queenswood.
All four pairs finished top of their groups and made their way to the quarterfinals. Whilst the pairs of Sumaya and Yashvy and Saaniya and Kiera exited in this round, losing to strong opposition by a nose, another pair, Eda and Esha made it all the way to the semi-finals.
But it was the terrific team-up of Arianna and Raeya who came out top, beating their NLCS opponents who had eliminated their fellow pupils. They took the top prize, putting in excellent displays of badminton prowess to claim the title as Herts and Middlesex League Champions.
This comes after players from the school also being named national champions at the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) tournament in November, and having students take top prizes at the Herts and Middlesex Elite Doubles Badminton tournament and Hertfordshire B Singles Event last December.
