1,300 HOMES: Campaign group object to mass development plans in Bushey

Published on: 11th November 2024   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Campaign to Protect Rural England Hertfordshire (CPRE) is opposing developments on the green belt across the county, including two new sites in Bushey.

Plans have been submitted for 350 homes at Bushey Golf Club, and a second planning application could see 1,300 homes built near Elstree Road.

Other dwellings and related facilities that CPRE is fighting include development plans on green belt land in Potters Bar, Elstree and Shenley.

The charity aims to “protect, promote and enhance Hertfordshire’s countryside” and is asking residents to object to the new developments over the alleged harm they could cause to the county and its rural land.

In a post on social media, CPRE Hertfordshire said: “Hertsmere Borough Council’s website says that Bushey is ‘a pleasant location separated from neighbouring, more built-up areas by farmland
commons and golf courses’.

“We are doing all we can so that these statements will continue to be true. We are objecting to these speculative proposals and we encourage local communities and residents to continue to fight
alongside us, to protect these green spaces.”

In a submission on the council planning portal, CPRE opposed the application for several reasons including the fact the site would “constitute a breach of the first and third purposes of the green belt” as identified in National Planning Policy Framework.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We can confirm that the two applications referred to, comprising proposed developments in Bushey, are currently in our system and are being assessed.

“These applications will be brought to our Planning Committee in due course.”
