Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) has agreed plans to double the number of parking bays near shops in Abbots Langley.
There had previously been complications due to the land in School Mead being owned by Watford Community Housing, but with the scheme now approved by both parties, 12 extra bays will be added to the site.
The project will mean the car park will now have 24 spaces.
In order to encourage a turnover in visitors, it was originally suggested that the new bays should have the same parking controls as the existing bays outside the shops, with a one-hour restriction from 8am to 6.30pm.
However, district councillor Chris Whately-Smith suggested one hour was not long enough, and proposed a two-hour restriction after speaking to the businesses in the area.
A formal Traffic Regulation Order for the new parking restrictions will be sent soon which, unless objected to, will be enforced.
All councillors agreed to the proposal at a meeting of the General Public Services Committee.
