A community lottery has reached a milestone as it has now raised £50,000 for good causes in and around St Albans.
A report shared by St Albans City & District Council on Friday, September 6, confirmed that the St Albans District Community Lottery has sold more than 93,000 tickets since it was launched in 2022.
So far, 42 local community groups, sports clubs and charities have signed up to benefit from the scheme.
For each £1 ticket sold, 50p goes to a good cause of the buyer’s choosing, 10p goes into a central fund to support community groups, 20p goes towards the prize fund with a potential jackpot of £25,000, and the remaining 20p on VAT and admin costs.
Councillor Sarwar Shamsher, committee vice-chair and lead for inclusion, said: “The Community Lottery is now well established and raising significant funds for the benefit of our diverse communities.
“There is still scope for other groups to sign up and I would urge them to do so. More than anything, though, we need people across the district to buy tickets.”
