YOUTH POLITICS: Rickmansworth school students write to MP about political issues

Published on: 12th January 2023   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Students at a school in Rickmansworth have been participating in local democracy by sending letters to Gagan Mohindra, MP for South West Hertfordshire, and asking him about the issues that matter to them.

Pupils in Form V at Charlotte House Prep School had a wide variety of matters on their minds, from water pollution to the number of animals killed in road accidents, from NHS funding to building houses on green belt sites.

The class was especially delighted when, shortly afterwards, they all received letters of reply from Mr Mohindra MP on special House of Commons notepaper.

Also during December, the school’s Form VI brought some festive cheer to the residents of Chorleywood Care Home, an annual tradition that the school has sadly been prevented from taking part in during the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Letters and poems were read out and Christmas songs were sung. The school now hopes to launch an inter-generational choir made up of care home residents and pupils.
