Young people in Watford are being given the chance to get active for free this summer at two local leisure centres.

Everyone Active’s Watford Central and Watford Woodside leisure centres are inviting under 19s to keep active during the school break with free access to their gyms and swimming pools from Monday 30 July to Thursday 30 August.

The scheme, which is being delivered in partnership with Watford Borough Council, allows young people to use the centres’ gyms on Mondays and Wednesdays between 2 to 4pm following an initial induction.

Swim 4 Everyone sessions will also be free to attend at Watford Central every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the holiday, and every Monday and Wednesday at Watford Woodside.

The Government has recently released their Childhood Obesity Plan, which not only aims to cut the amount of sugar consumed by children, but also keep them active. Everyone Active is playing its part by encouraging more children to have fun while participating in physical activity during the school holiday.

Deputy Mayor Karen Collett, said: “I am so pleased that we can offer under 19s in Watford free gym and swimming sessions at our two fantastic leisure centres. We hope that this will encourage young people to get active during the summer holidays.”

Gary Foley, Watford Central’s General Manager, said: “We’re proud to again be partnering with Watford Borough Council to offer under 19s in the area free access to our facilities during the summer holidays.

“We’ve worked closely with the council during Hertfordshire’s Year of Physical Activity to offer more opportunities for local residents to get active and improve their wellbeing, and this initiative will ensure young people benefit specifically.”
