‘WORRIED SICK’: Fundraiser launched to help support dog recover from surgery in Watford

Published on: 15th November 2025   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Uncategorized

The saying that dogs are a man’s best friends is especially true for former Watford resident Ruth.

Unfortunately, her support dog Cassie underwent surgery after becoming seriously ill last month.

The condition, called mucocele, affects the liver and bile duct. With Cassie given just a 70 per cent chance of survival, Ruth was terrified.

Speaking to WATFORDnews, Ruth said: “I’ve been worried sick, but my brave Cassie survived the three-hour surgery and is now back with me recovering after a week in intensive care.

“She truly is my world, and often the thing that keeps me fighting for another day. One look at that cute face lifts my mood.”

Despite mounting financial pressure, Ruth used her savings and insurance to cover the deposit for treatment, which totalled around £10,000. Following this, Ruth decided to launch a fundraising campaign to help cover remaining costs.

Cassie is now back at home and recovering well following her surgery.
