An Abbots Langley resident who, come Christmas, transforms into Doorstep Santa, is preparing for his biggest year ever.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Dean Courtney, a single parent, wanted to grant his young son’s wish to meet Santa. Deciding to share the Christmas spirit in his local area, he dressed up and visited children along his road in Abbots Langley.
Dean’s debut as St Nick was such a roaring success that, three years later, he is busy preparing for what he says will be his “biggest year ever”.
Last year, he visited more than 1,500 homes. He already has 350 bookings for this year, and has more than 800 beautifully wrapped boxes piled up in his home.
Dean charges £10 for a visit, which includes a present. Extra gifts can be provided for £5. As well as being booted and bearded, Dean will be singing songs, bringing his experience as a stand-up comedian and musician to bear. He aims to make his visits entertaining for parents and children alike.
Doorstop Santa is particularly helpful for families with children who may have limited mobility, bringing the joy of Christmas into the comfort of their own homes.
Dean’s son, who is now aged 10, will also be making a special appearance as an elf.
Dean said: “It’s magical to see the kids growing up each year. My son is going to help me keep the spirit of Christmas alive for younger children.”
