Abbots Langley is home to a yarn bomber who has marked autumn with a resplendent postbox topper.
Jenny Young, 65, moved to Abbots Langley in December 2020. Her first topper celebrated the festive season, and she now has 12 toppers in rotation which are used throughout the year.
Jenny says the toppers take weeks of painstaking work and, while she can change the characters without changing the toppers entirely, even this takes a great deal of time.
Her most recent autumnal topper received 1,100 likes and dozens of comments when she posted a photo on a UK-wide yarn bombing group. She has been amazed by the warm reception.
She said: “I recently went to take a topper off when I saw a woman standing and examining it really carefully. It seems to bring everyone a lot of joy.”
Jenny used to sew for living but has recently stopped to focus on caring for her son. However, this hasn’t stopped her from continuing to practise all kinds of arts and crafts.
She added: “It’s nice to see myself as not just a mum but a mixed-media artist!”
