Watford Police have shared that they are appealing for witnesses and more information about a car reportedly set on fire in Watford this morning (Friday September 19).
Officers were called to reports at around 7am this morning that a vehicle was allegedly set on fire on Whippendell Road.
A road closure was put in place for several hours, allowing colleagues from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe. The road has since reopened.
Police are treating the incident as an arson attack and are linking it to a previous arson attack on the same road in July.
Sergeant Harriet Hollis, from the Watford and Three Rivers Response Team, said: “Thankfully no one was injured in this incident, but it has caused significant traffic congestion while emergency services dealt with the scene. We’d like to thank the public for their patience this morning.
“We are making a number of enquiries at this time and are keen to speak to anyone who may have information that could assist our investigation.
“Were you walking or driving along Whippendell Road or King Georges Avenue between 6.30am and 7am this morning? Did you see any suspicious behaviour?
“Did your vehicle’s dashcam capture anything of note? If so, please get in touch as soon as possible, quoting reference ISR 106 of 19 September.”
