WINTER WONDERLAND: Chalfont St Peter Church invites residents to new Narnia-themed experience

Published on: 21st January 2024   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Chalfont St Peter church is preparing to turn its community centre into a winter wonderland inspired by C.S Lewis’ much-loved fantasy novel.

Gold Hill Baptist Church is celebrating 250 years since its inauguration in a variety of exciting ways, including a Narnia-themed experience.

The event, taking place from February 5 to 11, will see the ground floor of the Gold Hill hub on Church Lane transformed into wintry scenes from C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Groups of local schoolchildren and members of the community will, like the Pevensie children in the famous books, arrive as evacuees at a train station and enter Professor Digory Kirke’s study. From there, they will venture through the wardrobe and into the snowy world of Narnia. As they journey past the lamppost, visitors will be greeted by Mr Tumnus before traversing a frozen river to the stone table, where they will meet the great lion Aslan.

Pastor team leader Stephen Walker-Williams said: “It’s such a powerful story of good versus evil and is profoundly allegorical.”
