Last year, residents issued a plea for step-free access to Northwood, Northwood Hills and Ruislip stations.
Whilst Northwood station neared the end of the feasibility phase last year, and Northwood Hills had previously been on the longlist of 30 stations to be subject to a feasibility study in 2026, it did not make the shortlist.
The reason given by Transport for London (TfL) is that the next stop from Northwood Hills is Pinner station, which is already step-free. However, it has now been announced that step-free feasibility work will finally begin at Ruislip station in 2026.
Speaking to NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews, a spokesperson for TfL said: “Dependent on deliverability and funding, we’d be looking to do a concept design during 2027, detailed design during 2028 and get on site in 2029.”
In a statement, David Simmonds CBE, MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, said: “This is a welcome development toward improving travel across our Tube network for residents who require additional assistance.”
