Frustration at rat run which leaves traffic at stand still

Published on: 20th September 2018   |   By: Dean Shaw   |   Category: Uncategorized

Residents in Radlett have voiced their frustrations as motorists use a rat run on the approach to the A41 causing traffic to build up in the village.

The congestion is becoming an almost daily occurrence, with the problem made worse by motorists using Primrose Lane and Hillfield Lane, according to one resident who contacted My Radlett News and wished to remain anonymous.

They said: “The constant traffic on the Watford Road heading towards where the Toby Carvery is.

“This is due to cars cutting through Primrose Lane and coming out at Hillfield Lane, people let them out every time and the people who patiently wait in the traffic are left twiddling their thumbs.

“Would it not be sensible to reduce cars going down Primrose Lane, which is a little lane, and cannot cope with the volume of cars, by turning Hillfield Lane into a no left turn?”

That feeling of frustration is shared by many other residents, who took to Facebook in response to the comments.

However, others feel the issue lies at the Watford Road roundabout and that closing the rat run through Primrose Lane would only cause issues for others.

Parag Oza said: “To turn Hillfield Lane into a no turning left will simply impact on the residents who live there. Ridiculous proposal,” while another resident, Shelley Taylor, added: “Toby carvery round about needs traffic lights and the traffic will flow better and safer in all directions – Shelley Taylor.”

Hertfordshire County Council were contacted but had not responded at the time of going to print.
