Business minister Richard Harrington MP resigned from the government last night (Monday) in support of a move allowing MPs to take control of Commons business.
Tomorrow (Wednesday), a series of votes will be held to find out which Brexit option has the most support among MPs.
In his resignation letter to Theresa May, Mr Harrington MP set out the reasons for his decisions.
He wrote: “I regret that the government’s approach to Brexit is playing roulette with the lives and livelihoods of the vast majority of people in this country who are employed by or otherwise depend on businesses for their livelihood.”
Mr Harrington said he also had messages from the business community that the current impasse was resulting in cancelled investment decisions, business being placed abroad, and a sense of ridicule for British business across the world.
He went on: “I hope you will now act in the national interest and enable Parliament this week to find a consensus which we can use in our negotiating position moving forward.”
