Watford Head Coach Slavisa Jokanovic believes his side’s play was too slow in last night’s defeat to Birmingham City at St Andrew’s and doesn’t feel his men created enough chances.
Two goals from Clayton Donaldson – either side of Fernando Forestieri’s seventh minute strike – won the points for new Blues’ boss Gary Rowett as the Hornets struggled to get a foothold in the game. “The result is disappointing, we tried to catch control of the game but we had many problems,” explained Jokanovic after the full-time whistle. “We played slowly, on the night we needed better passing, while we didn’t create enough chances. My players saw some of the ball but didn’t create enough in front of goal.” Jokanovic admits his side isn’t a physically strong unit in the most uncompromising of leagues and admitted the Hornets need to find a way to deal with crosses and balls into the penalty area. “Like some games before we didn’t deal with the long ball today,” he added. “We need to find a solution to this situation.” Gianni Munari and Sebastien Bassong missed out with injury as the Serbian rotated his squad for the midweek clash in the Midlands. Jokanovic feels he has a strong squad and the inclusion of Forestieri was justified with his fourth of the campaign. “Pudil has played many minutes so I wanted to give him some time out,” he noted. “I believe this team had enough to win this match. In front of us now is an important game on Saturday and our bodies and minds must be ready for this.”
