Lions Watford fighter, Ellie Harber, 13, won a prestigious title with a technical knockout (TKO) last month.
Ellie took the WFMC (World Fightsport & Martial Arts Championships) K1 under 45kg British International Open Title in Birmingham on February 9, against her opponent, Kayla Garvey from Widnes.
It was a fierce fight over two rounds with Ellie taking the title in the second round with a TKO, after her fighting style proved too much for her opponent and Kayla’s corner decided to stop the fight.
Ellie said: “It was a tough fight with my opponent showing great heart. I’m pleased with the result and looking forward to getting back into training and trying to work more on my technique.”
The following week, Ellie went back to Birmingham for the WKA (World Kickboxing Association) English Championships. Her first discipline was K1, where she won a silver medal and she then followed this up by becoming the new WKA Muay Thai English Title Champion (under 47kg) with a strong fight against a local Birmingham girl.
Ellie was supported at the event by two of her coaches, Colin and Sally Lewis, owners of Lions gym.
Colin Lewis said: “She did amazingly – always on the front foot and looking for ways to attack.
“Ellie is working hard to ensure she is best she can be in both K1 and Muay Thai. This involves a gruelling six-day-a-week training program and dedication to strict, healthy diets.
“It is extremely challenging, as she is striving to reach the top of her game.”
