A Chipperfield resident has accused Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) of ignoring the issue of flooding in the village.
During this wetter-than-usual summer, the resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that rainwater filling up the roads is a recurring problem. Kings News previously reported on the issue earlier this year.
He said: “There are still major issues on Nunfield. It floods every time it rains, and all we’ve got is a few traffic cones there.
“As well as that, the roads and streets are in a state. I haven’t seen any road sweepers in a very long time. I think HCC is ignoring us because we’re only a small village.”
Another resident took to social media to express their concerns, stating: “Obviously no one wants to park in the ‘lake’ at the end of the road. It accounts for around three spaces!
“It’s been reported to the council so many times with photos and all, and even got a mention in Kings News, with it apparently being looked into. Still, nothing has been done. We need driveways or a different parking layout to help!”
A spokesperson for HCC said: “Our highways team are aware of the flooding in the Nunfield area and we are currently planning work to clean out the drainage system in the area, although we do not have a date set yet.
“We have an annual programme of cleaning out highway drains, however, when there is persistent heavy rain of the sort we have seen this year, the ground can become saturated and drainage systems can be temporarily overwhelmed.
“We’d encourage residents to report blocked drains or flooding on our online fault reporting system at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/highwayfaults where you can also see how recently each drain has been cleaned. Even if we can’t fix the problem straight away, we can use the information to help us plan our future work programmes.”
This was actioned by me some months ago after talking with Nunfield residents!
The water resting at the entrance of this residential road is completely unacceptable which is why it’s getting sorted.
