A local walking netball club in Rickmansworth celebrated its first anniversary recently.
Three Rivers District Council’s walking netball programme is extremely popular with women over 50, as well as with people that have had health problems and had to give up the sport.
Ellie, 46 had spinal surgery three years ago and loved walking netball straightaway.
She said: “For that hour I can set aside all my aches and pains and feel young again.”
Another member, Mel, explained that she used to play but had to stop when she was 42 because she seemed to be too old to play on the majority of teams.
However, this programme offered her the chance to play again.
She said: “When I saw this, I knew it was a great way for me to get back into the sport.”
Classes are held every Tuesday from 12.30pm to 1.45pm at the William Penn Leisure Centre.
Classes cost £2 per week.
