Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society spread some magic

Published on: 19th January 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society return to the Watford Palace with The Sorcerer.

Last summer was very special for the society as they scooped eight awards at the International G&S festival, including International Champions, and several of the nominees and award winners return to perform again.

The story involves magic, spells and love potions supplied by the Sorcerer, John Wellington Wells which have hilarious consequences on the villagers.

Director, Philip Joslin said “We’ve slightly updated the period to the 1950’s and used the style of Peynet, a French artist with some distinctive art depicting lovers. Homage to the “Peynet Kiosk“ is part of the set for the production in the guise of Sir Marmaduke’s garden gazebo”.

Margaret Johnson is Musical Director and is “very excited” to be working with the fine voices in ALGSS accompanied by a 15 piece orchestra.

Opening Night is Wednesday 31st Jan 7.30pm and it runs to Saturday 3rd February with a matinee on the Saturday 2.30pm. Purchase 10 or more seats for Wednesday night and get a £1 discount on each ticket.
