Radlett Action Racial Equality (RARE) will kick off 2021 by launching a special learning hub for the Radlett community.
Every month, RARE will discuss a different book, podcast, film, TV show, lecture or webinar on the subject of equality, anti-racism, history or prejudice.
The first session, at 8pm on Monday, January 11 will discuss professor Hakim Adi’s (pictured) lecture, ‘The African Diaspora in Britain’ – first given to Gresham College in October 2020.
RARE co-founder Ruby Koopman said: “This lecture examines the centuries-long presence of the African diaspora as an integral part of Britain’s history since Roman times.
“Unfortunately, this history is still too often ignored, its promotion limited only to October.
“Attempts to restrict it only to the period following the arrival of the Windrush in 1948, lead to a distortion of the past which has serious consequences for all of us.”
Attendees can watch the lecture online for free beforehand and discuss their views on professor Adi’s thoughts with the group.
