A makeup artist from Garston worked on a project with charity Look Good Feel Better to help women going through cancer feel better.

On February 4, World Cancer Day, the charity released a video which shows artist Laura Hunt do a virtual workshop with Aisha, from Canada, who only recently finished her cancer treatment.

Laura has been a makeup artist for 14 years and has worked with big celebrities and on important commercials.

Speaking with GarstonNews she said: “We had matching kits, she has darker skin so obviously she was given a darker shade, I showed her how to apply the products and we would do it step by step.

“She’d watch me through Zoom and do it as well. We went through all the stages to create her look.

“Patients going through cancer are isolated anyways, but the pandemic has made people even more isolated because they can’t attend classes or therapy sessions and they have to shield.

“It was really nice being part of this project and being able to do this virtually. I think it helps women build their self-esteem cause obviously when they go through cancer they can lose their hair, lashes, brows.

“It’s amazing being part of this and it’s really encouraging seeing the change that it makes in people, it may seem quite simple that it’s just makeup, but to see their spirit lifted and see them forget they have cancer for a couple of hours is just amazing.”

Laura has been volunteering with Look Good Feel Better at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood since 2015.
