VILLAGE VOWS: Abbots Langley couple become ‘part of village’s history’ with unique wedding

A couple from Abbots Langley have tied the knot in a truly local wedding.

Megan Turner and her husband Andrew married at St Lawrence Church on Saturday, March 1, and afterwards enjoyed a celebratory meal at San Giorgio Pizzeria on the High Street.

Megan told Abbotsnews: “We love where we live. Over lockdown, we must have walked every street of Abbots and the surrounding areas on our socially distanced walks. We love the history and the camaraderie of the area. We also think it’s very important to support the local economy.

“It also meant a lot to us that at any point, we could visit the restaurant and church to relive our special day.”

The couple decided to get creative and fill the church with more than 300 hand-crocheted flowers. Megan also made her own wedding dress.

She said: “I’ve always been creative. I will try my hand at anything. It’s become a bit of a joke in my family that if I’m wearing something, brought something to eat or brought a gift, I have probably made it. So it only seemed right to try and do everything.

“We think it did save money, but this was never our intention when getting creative. We truly just wanted a unique day that was true to Andrew and I. I was even able to donate the church flowers to the church for hopefully many weddings to come.”

Megan also owns her own handmade children’s clothing company, Mini Megan Turner. The idea started nine years ago out of her childhood bedroom, and is now a successful online business.

Megan was delighted with her local wedding day, adding: “Amy and the team at San Giorgio, everyone at St Lawrence Church, and Pele from Den Helder Weddings all made our day so special. This village holds so much history and now we feel a bit more a part of that too.”
