The Croxley-based chairman of the Watford Symphony Orchestra (WSO) has spoken BOUT the difficulties faced by arts organisations amidst the tough financial climate of present.
As well as being its current chair, Vicky Iveson is a founding member of the WSO and has played with the orchestra since its establishment in 2007. Until last year, she also taught the violin to students at Little Green, Yorke Mead and Harvey Road Schools.
She said: “The arts are having a really tough time at the moment and funding is really tight. The WSO has a very dedicated community of players and audience members, but it’s becoming difficult to sustain the orchestra.”
Alongside welcoming new sponsors, the WSO is always open for new musicians to get involved. The orchestra performs four times a year and attracts soloists of the highest calibre, including some who have gone on to achieve international fame.
Their next concert will take place at St Luke’s Church in Watford on Saturday, April, 27 and will feature a recital of Sibelius’ iconic Symphony No.5. For more information, please visit the WSO website at www.watfordsymphonyorchestra.co.uk
