‘VERY POSITIVE’: Chalfonts captain raises tee-riffic £17k for Cure Parkinson’s

Published on: 24th February 2026   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A captain of Harewood Downs Golf Club, Cathy Myers chose Cure Parkinson’s to be the club’s charity of the year for 2025 and planned some incredible events to raise vital funds and awareness.

Cathy, who lives in Chalfont St Giles, raised a phenomenal £17,282 for the Parkinson’s research charity in total – the most raised by a Harewood Downs Golf Club captain for charity to date.

Cathy meticulously planned her fundraising events throughout the year, including a bridge drive, pre-loved golf clothing sale, a raffle with high-value prizes on offer (such as a champagne afternoon for two at The Dorchester), as well as a gala day consisting of golf course challenges and a buffet meal in the evening.

Another highlight from Cathy’s year of fundraising was her wine auction and dinner with guest speaker Ian Mill KC, who treated guests to a talk all about his work as a barrister.

Cathy reflected on her year of fundraising, saying: “My experience of fundraising was mainly very positive and brought out the competitive side of me, as I was determined to raise more money for charity than previous captains.

My biggest fundraiser was the evening with Ian Mill KC, who not only provided all the quality wines but also donated three fabulous bottles from his personal collection. This gave me my biggest “wow” moment of the year when a member of the golf club bid a staggering £2,000 in the auction.”

But Cathy’s competitive side wasn’t her only reason for dedicating so much time and effort into fundraising for the charity, as Parkinson’s is a cause very close to her heart.

Cathy said: “I chose to support Cure Parkinson’s because one of my oldest and dearest friends, Janis, lives with this chronic, progressive, neurological condition.

“Janis has understandably found it a challenge to come to terms with the diagnosis and I wanted to do something positive to help. Cure Parkinson’s appealed to me because its funding is dedicated to research.”

Cure Parkinson’s is extremely grateful to Cathy and the Harewood Downs Golf Club for raising funds and awareness throughout 2025 in support of our research.

To mark Cathy’s fundraising achievement, Cure Parkinson’s chairman of trustees, Mike Ashton, was presented with a cheque at the Harewood Downs Golf Club by Cathy.

Mike said: “The amount Cathy has raised over the course of a year is incredible, and a real testament to her drive and commitment to the cause.

“We aim to cure Parkinson’s, and the only way we will do this is through the help of our wonderful supporters like Cathy.”
