People in Garston were among thousands across Hertfordshire to celebrate VE Day last week.
Residents from Holland Gardens came together to mark the event with a social distancing street party.
They decorated their houses with Union Jack flags, bunting and balloons prior to sitting outside their homes for a celebratory afternoon tea.
One resident, Mike Tearle placed a display of vintage bikes on his front drive for the neighbours to view at their leisure.
This included a delivery bike which had a basket on the front for residents to donate non-perishable goods for The Watford Food Bank. Mike had agreed that he would deliver the food whilst riding the bike.
Such was the generosity and goodwill of Holland Gardens that on Monday (May 11), four residents, Paul Saunders, Lou Saunders, and Karina Tearle joined Mike by each riding a vintage bike to deliver the overwhelming quantity of goods to the food bank.
Speaking afterwards, Karina said: “We would like to thank Holland Gardens for all their contributions to the VE Day celebrations and for their generosity of food items donated.”
