A Croxley councillor and painter-printmaker was excited to display 16 of her artworks at Croxley Green Library in February.
Brazilian-born Valeria Aguilar has only made art her main priority in the last few years since her grown-up children have flown the nest. Valeria’s artistic process often begins with drawing a scene before she then paints or makes a print using woodcuts.
Valeria explained: “There’s such a range of architecture in the UK. I’ve done prints of New Road and the High Street as well as places further afield, like Oxford and Liverpool.”
When she’s not in her Croxley studio painting people and places, Valeria also works as a parish councillor. Unsurprisingly, both Valeria’s art and her work as a councillor take inspiration from the people and places around her.
She shared: “I’ve lived in the UK for 23 years and in Croxley for eight years, but when my children were small, I didn’t have many local friends. Everything changed when I became a councillor. It’s amazing to know so many people here and see so many friends at my first exhibition in Croxley.”
