A Rickmansworth business selling props and costumes from famous films and TV shows has sold what is reported to be the highest-priced Star Wars item ever sold at auction.
Last month, Propstore held an auction which included Darth Vader’s original lightsaber prop. Featured prominently throughout the original trilogy and appearing in several subsequent films, the prop was used by both David Prowse and stunt performer Bob Anderson.
Expected to sell for between $1million and $3million, the prop eventually sold for $3.6million (£2.7million).
Propstore explained that the prop saw extensive usage and therefore “bears authentic signs of wear” such as cracks and scratches.
The company explained: “Far from diminishing its value, these marks serve as compelling evidence of the lightsaber’s direct involvement in the action – testament to its film-used authenticity.
“Darth Vader’s hero duelling lightsaber stands as one of the most historically significant Star Wars artifacts ever presented at auction.”
Also sold at the auction was a Platform 9 ¾ sign used in the original Harry Potter films, which sold for £102,573.
