‘UNSAFE TO DRIVE’: Potholes continue to plague Radlett roads

Published on: 27th January 2026   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Uncategorized

Potholes are a familiar sight on Radlett’s roads and patience is now wearing thin. What was a minor inconvenience has become a regular talking point. Residents voiced frustrations on social media about roads like Station Road and Harper Lane.

One comment read: “It’s making it unsafe to drive going around the potholes; roads get worse and worse.” Another claimed they “destroyed a tyre and wheel while driving down Aldenham Avenue and hitting the mother of all potholes (which was invisible as it was full of water).”

Some residents argue temporary repairs, involving surface tar and loose stone, are not long-term solutions. Others raised concerns about poorly lit or dirty traffic islands, which pose safety risks.

Weather has also played a role. Reform councillor Caroline Clapper explained via social media that recent cold spells have accelerated pothole formation.

Posting on Facebook, she said: “I am reporting as many as I can, but your help makes a difference. I cannot always check Facebook comments, so email is best.”

Residents are asked to report the pothole on the council’s website and email the reference number to caroline.clapper@hertfordshire.gov.uk who can directly follow up with highways teams.
