A year on from its closure, Pin Wei Chinese restaurant in Abbots Langley remains vacant amidst disagreements over its future.
Pin Wei closed its doors in December 2022 after the landlord decided to sell the building. After 17 years in the village, the news was met with sadness by Choy Chan, Pin Wei’s owner, as well as by staff and customers.
More than a year later and the ‘we’re closing’ sign remains on the door. On October 24, Three Rivers District Council received an application to demolish the existing building and erect six two-storey semi-detached dwellings.
A decision on the proposal is yet to be made but Abbots Langley Parish Council (ALPC) has expressed its disapproval of the plan.
A comment submitted by ALPC said: “Given the location of this site in a conservation area and its proximity to both listed buildings and a church, members feel the three houses fronting the High Street have a modular form that conflicts with the character of the High Street.”
ALPC added that the proposed dwellings should be more biodiverse and submitted a request for the “inclusion of bird housing”.
