David Taylor, MP for Hemel Hempstead, has spoken out after residents shared their concerns over a new roundabout on Boundary Way.
Last month, HEMELnews reported that Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) had begun improvement works at the roundabout between Boundary Way and Buncefield Lane.
The new roundabout will include a dedicated space for cyclists around the entire junction, as well as widened footways and new pedestrian crossings.
Residents have since shared their concerns over the news, particularly over the fact that Three Cherry Trees Lane will be closed during the works.
Responding, Mr Taylor MP launched an open consultation with residents, which has now received nearly 400 responses.
He said: “Whilst the decision to install a new roundabout on Boundary Way was made long before I was elected and unfortunately beyond my control, I will continue to do everything I can to address this unacceptable situation.”
The MP revealed that he had a meeting with HCC’s director of transport, Rupert Thacker, urging for the lane to remain open but with 20mph speed limits as well as the prohibition of heavy goods vehicles.
The MP continued: “I am extremely concerned that this will further cause chaos for our community. It’s critical that improvements to our infrastructure are done with residents’ interest first and common sense at the heart of decision making.”
HCC has been contacted for comment.
