A Bushey school is “incredibly proud” of a student who recently featured in Channel 4’s The Piano.
Hosted by Claudia Winkleman and featuring judges Mika and Jon Batiste, the show invites gifted amateur musicians to play at train stations across the country.
On Sunday, April 20, jazz pianist Marcus, who is in Year 8 at The Purcell School, appeared on the show to showcase his talent at Brighton train station.
To viewers’ surprise, the episode saw a unique twist never featured in the show before. Marcus was chosen to “break the mould” by playing in the final’s first-ever duet with fellow contestant Phil.
With just four weeks to practice, Jon mentored the duo as they prepared to perform the classic Blue Moon composition in front of a live audience at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead, broadcast on Sunday, May 25.
On the show, Marcus said: “It’s a brilliant idea and Jon Batiste is like a massive inspiration, and I think it’s just crazy to see him in real life.”
