ULEZ PLEAD: Harrow Council leader urges ULEZ rethink

Published on: 4th September 2023   |   By: Panayiota Demosthenous   |   Category: Uncategorized

Cllr Paul Osborn, leader of Harrow Council and Pinner Ward councillor has urged Michael Gove MP to rethink including Harrow in the ULEZ expansion, in a new letter posted to the Harrow Conservatives site.

The letter was posted to the Harrow Conservatives site on Thursday, August 24, following the news that the ULEZ expansion would be going ahead, reaching all London boroughs including Harrow.

Cllr Osborn wrote: “Since taking control of Harrow Council from Labour in May 2022, our residents have made it clear to me how much they oppose the expansion of the ULEZ by Sadiq Khan.

“Unlike every other London borough, Harrow does not have any TfL roads, so the Council alone is responsible for all public roads in the borough. Therefore, we find it particularly unfair that we are having this deeply unpopular scheme forced upon us against our will.”

The letter has also been shared on social media, where it has received mixed comments from locals.

One said: “Thank you for not giving up the fight against ULEZ, this a pure money making scheme which is aggressive and unfair.”

However, another responded: “I’m for it as you’d probably guess. Wasn’t ULEZ a Conservative idea in the first place and wasn’t expanding it part of the conditions of the TFL bailout post covid?”
