TWO IN A ROW: Wealdstone take all three points against Chesterfield

Wealdstone picked up their second win in a row last night at home against Chesterfield, despite going behind in the opening minutes of the game through a Tom Denton penalty.

The Stones found themselves ahead by half time thanks to a brace from Moses Emmanuel before Jacob Mendy added a third late in the second half.

It was the worst possible start for the Stones after Harry Isted brought down Tyson in the box, which allowed Tom Denton to step forward for the away side and score comfortably from the penalty spot.

Chesterfield’s lead didn’t last too long though after a Dennon Lewis cross found Emmanuel free in the box, and the latter’s header pulled the Stones back on level terms.

Just two minutes later, Wealdstone completed the turnaround, and it was the same combination of Lewis and Emmanuel which saw the Stones go in front after just 15 minutes.

Alex Dyer almost gave the home side the breathing space they desired just before the half hour mark, but his effort from the edge of the box smashed the crossbar.

The third goal finally came on the 82nd minute and this time it was Mendy who tried his luck from just outside the box and the effort was rifled into the top corner.

However, all of the Stones’ effort to get a two-goal lead was undone just seconds later when Denton headed his and Chesterfield’s second, setting up a tense final five minutes.

Despite the pressure, The Stones managed to hold on for all three points which sees them climb into the top half of the Vanarama National League.

It’s FA Cup action up next for Dean Brennan’s men as they welcome Hayes and Yeading United to Grosvenor Vale.
