Two men have been charged and remanded in custody after officers made arrests following a burglary in Rickmansworth.
Johnny Doherty, 23, of Tramway Avenue, Edmonton, London, has been charged with burglary dwelling with intent to steal, common assault of an emergency worker, assault by beating of an emergency worker, and escape from lawful custody.
Patrick Hanrahan, 20, of no fixed address, has been charged with burglary dwelling with intent to steal and common assault of an emergency worker.
The charges are in connection with an incident in The Clump on Tuesday, June 20, when a member of the public called police after they witnessed two men acting suspiciously.
Officers from both the Intervention and Safer Neighbourhood Teams attended, acting swiftly to detain two men. A large amount of suspected stolen jewellery was recovered nearby. A local Police Community Support Officer was assaulted during the arrest but thankfully required no further treatment.
Three Rivers Chief Inspector Andrew Palfreyman said: “This incident is an excellent example of the work and commitment of my team to apprehend suspects and protect victims of crime.
“I will also be making personal contact with the member of the public who reported the burglary, to say thank you for calling us when they felt something wasn’t right. It shows that often, that gut feeling is worth listening to.
“Thanks to their phone call, we were able to attend immediately, make arrests and recover jewellery which is no doubt of huge sentimental value to the victim.
“The ongoing investigation is now being led by our detectives in the Local Crime Unit.”
